Are You Being a Bad Student at Life?

Okay so hear me out on this because I know some people love to tussle over being held accountable… BUT – I think a lot of people who struggle with getting the most out of life are bad students at life. Now before you start to think, “Girl the audacity when you were just complaining in another blog post about you struggling with things,” and I mean… okay. That’s valid. I get it, but also I’m very self aware *cues Michael Jackson Man in the Mirror*. I know that at times I’m not being the best student at life, and I hold myself accountable for it! For me, that is what this space is for. I use it to reflect, hold myself accountable, and just express new thoughts and revelations I have along my journey. I am just opening this space to the public because I feel called to do so. I feel called to share my journey, so this is one way of me working on being a better student at life.

Also, please understand that I am not talking about people who have diagnosed illnesses that cause them to struggle, so if that’s what you were thinking… bye. I am talking about the people who are given the same life lessons over and over in different forms and are just flat out being bad students not actively trying to learn from those lessons.

Let me also say that some people do not realize they are living in a life-lesson cycle, being tested repeatedly on certain lessons until they learn from them and handle them differently. I don’t consider those who don’t realize the cycle as students, but more-so participants. The ones who know what lessons they are being taught, however, and are ignoring the work they need to do to be better are who I am really talking to. Yes, you, and you know what you need to work on!

For those of you who want to be a student and not a participant, the first step is working on your self awareness. Observe yourself, not judge, but observe how you are in situations. Again, do not judge yourself on anything, just start paying more attention. Give yourself grace. How do certain situations make you feel? Does it bring you a familiar feeling? Have you had to say the same things over and over before? The more you actively participate, the more you are a student. That’s where I want you to start… work on your self awareness and work on your emotional intelligence. To be a better person in general, regardless of the lesson, you should work on these things to better navigate all situations in your life as your best self.

Now, current students. Stop ignoring all of the signs around you and stop relying on anyone else other than yourself to make changes. Hold yourself accountable. Work to be a better person. That is the main reason we are here on earth in this meat suit anyway. Like, don’t you want to stop repeating cycles? And while I am aware that there are outside forces at play, all I’m asking you to do is focus on creating a better YOU. Observe your patterns. How do you react to things? Be mindful of how you speak to yourself. Redirect negative thoughts to positive ones. That’s all you can control. But again, give yourself grace. Live in the moment. There will always be lessons to learn in life no matter what level you feel you are on. We are lifelong students – just try and not be a bad one. Cheers to breaking the cycle!
