When you think of darkness, what do you think?
It could be sad, daunting, cold, loveless… but it’s also the color of ink.
I started using the darkness in my favor.
I used it to rewrite my life’s will.
I made my mind a blank canvas and used the darkness as my quill.
What do you see when you close your eyes?
What do you think when darkness consumes you?
Do you feel scared, or do you feel safe? Either feeling, I see it as true.
I started to think of darkness as grounds for creation, and when I need rest I choose darkness as the place for my soul’s hibernation.
At first, I thought that the darkness meant I had gone too low…
But soon, I learned that it’s just a natural part of life’s ebbs & flow.
At the beginning of time, it was nothing but darkness.
And from the darkness, the world was created.
We wouldn’t appreciate the light without the dark, so Let there be light were the first words stated.
The heavens, the earth, and the waters all divinely crafted
And then created was you and me, and from the darkness, we adapted.
From darkness in the womb, to the darkness of seeds in the ground, to the darkness of the universe, you see that darkness gets around…
But still, I fell in love with the darkness, and not just when it arrives at night.
I fell in love with the darkness in me because now I know I can create light.
My darkness makes me think; my darkness keeps me grounded.
My darkness shows what I’ve overcome and reminds me never to reallow it.
I fell in love with the darkness.
It is where I grow.
For no creation begins in the light, it is the darkness that prepares the show.
